Scars

You are crystalline

With precise edges

But that’s what makes you interesting -

You appear smooth.

It wasn’t ‘till I got real close

And rubbed my cheek against your skin

That I noticed each hole within you

Scabs and scrapes cut just too deep to hide the mark

On me

How fascinating

Your wounds which’ve healed years ago

Now draw my blood with each breath

That word that slipped between your lips

Which you will later regret

You always do.

Those lips were pressed together tight

Your speechless voice hurts just the same

Futurity scares me; your insecurity tears me

Apart.

How vein

-Of me

The things you say

You’ll soon forget

Yet it still continues

You resent my success

But you know all too well

That red turns to white

Those unspoken promises

And spoken regret
